TNAP-QHIN accreditation ensures adherence to security, privacy, regulatory compliance and rights management, including compliance with new privacy regulatory requirements

KANSAS CITY, MO – January 10, 2020 – iShare Medical, a universal platform for secure nationwide sharing of medical information, announced today it has achieved full TNAP-Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN) Accreditation with the Trusted Network Accreditation Program (TNAP) from the Electronic Healthcare Network Accreditation Commission (EHNAC).

The 21st Century Cure Act mandated the creation of a secure, HIPAA compliant, nationwide health information superhighway to facilitate nationwide sharing of health data (i.e. interoperability) known as the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA).  TEFCA defines a hierarchy for health information exchange.  At the top of this hierarchy is the Recognized Coordinating Entity (RCE) which serves as the Administrator of TEFCA under the leadership of the Office of National Coordinator for HealthIT.   The RCE has no software or any data. The technical infrastructure to get, organize and share medical information is provided by the Qualified Health Information Networks (QHIN’s).  QHIN’s are nationwide network of HIE’s that serve as the Trust Anchors for nationwide interoperability.

The TNAP-QHIN accreditation is for Health Information Network organizations, as defined by TEFCA, who wish to be acknowledged by the RCE as a QHIN Trust Anchor.

Through EHNAC’s comprehensive third-party review, iShare Medical was evaluated in areas of security, privacy, regulatory compliance and rights management, including compliance with new privacy regulatory requirements. Upon completion of the rigorous accreditation process, the organization demonstrates to its constituents adherence to strict standards and participation in the comprehensive, objective evaluation of its business.

“As regulatory concerns continue to be front and center on the minds of healthcare leadership, a company’s decision to take the necessary steps to ensure trust within its stakeholders and customers that they’re adhering to the latest standards in privacy, security and confidentiality is an important accomplishment in today’s healthcare ecosystem. TNAP-QHIN accreditation provides an additional level of confidence for QHINs and other organizations that are under competitive pressures to continually ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, business metrics and best practices,” said Lee Barrett, executive director and CEO of EHNAC. “Attaining TNAP-QHIN accreditation sets iShare Medical apart as an early adopter willing to put forth effort to demonstrate compliance with currently proposed regulations. We commend iShare Medical on attaining this important accreditation.”

iShare Medical simplifies the sharing, consolidation, and analysis of medical records for patients, providers, and payers in order to create a learning health system to help detect, prevent, and treat disease sooner. iShare Medical’s software is used for secure bi-directional communication among trusted entities whose identities have been verified.

iShare Medical’s customers use their software to improve care coordination, obtain prior authorization for services, authorize referrals to another provider or service, and to streamline transitions of care from one care setting to another.  In healthcare many of these transactions are currently performed using fax machines.  iShare Medical replaces the fax machine with secure encrypted sharing of medical records among identity proofed entities.

“iShare Medical has a first mover advantage by proving compliance with TEFCA through EHNAC Accredited TNAP-QHIN which significantly differentiates iShare Medical from its competitors”, iShare Medical’s President/CEO Linda Van Horn, MBA.

iShare Medical is EHNAC Accredited for HIPAA Privacy and Security and is a DirectTrust Accredited Trust Anchor whose network has 2.2 million healthcare providers nationwide.

TNAP accreditation leverages existing industry-wide identity verification, authentication, and privacy/security frameworks and directly aligns with the development of the 21st Century Cures Act, including the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA), to promote interoperability, assuring the security and privacy of trusted networks and the use of enabling technologies in the healthcare ecosystem.
