2020 Vision For This Decade 2020 - 2030 is Based on Three HealthIT Pillars

We are ushering in a new decade of transformation in healthcare one that moves away from siloed data to radical interoperability. This future is based on three HealthIT pillars that are the foundation needed to support new payment and care models:

  1. Pillar One - Digital Identity: Health data is sensitive and can’t be shared with just anyone. We need to know who we are talking with in order to establish trust. This means that a person, provider, payer or device needs to have a digital identity that is bound to their real ID-proofed identity.

This digital identity can be used to aggregate medical records from many sources into a complete, lifetime medical record organized around the person that can be easily shared.
  1. Pillar Two - Interoperability: Interoperability is the ability to seamlessly and bi-directionally share medical information regardless of care setting, provider, or EHR. Sharing medical records across organizational boundaries helps providers to better coordinate care, improve care and outcomes, and reduce costs.
  1. Pillar Three - Learning Health System: A learning health system learns from the results of care provided to a population and then uses that knowledge to highlight pertinent data in an individual’s record to help predict what will most likely happen. This information is used by providers to help improve the care of the individual.

A learning health system analyzes what happened, monitors in real time what is happening, and predicts what will most likely happen to help detect, prevent, and treat disease sooner.

These three HealthIT pillars Digital Identity, Interoperability, and a Learning Health system are the foundations for this decade to build a better, more cost-effective, and efficient health system.
